3 On Your Side: Things That Will Be More Expensive In 2015

By Jim Donovan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- From hamburgers to that cup of coffee you drink in the morning, get ready to spend more money on some popular items this year.  3 On Your Side Consumer Reporter Jim Donovan takes a look at what's expected to be more expensive in 2015.

Tired of rising prices?  In some cases you can blame it on lack of rain.  Beef prices are already at record levels due to higher feed costs related to droughts, and they're expected to go up another 4 to 5 percent in 2015.

Lack of rain in Brazil is leading companies from Starbucks to Folgers to boost coffee prices.  The popular k-cup coffees will be 8 percent higher this year.

First Redbox boosted the price to rent DVD movies and Blue Ray discs.  Now beginning this week renting a video game jumps to $3 a day, that's a one dollar increase.

It will cost you more to travel too.  Tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike are up 5 percent and even though fuel prices are falling air fares are expected to still climb, between 2 to 6 percent depending the location.

Healthcare costs pretty much go up every year, and this year is no exception.  Price Waterhouse Coopers Health Research Institute Report estimates medical costs will rise by 6.8 percent in 2015.

FedEx and UPS begin charging customers based on dimension of their package this year instead of by just weight.  In addition the shipping prices for both carriers is going up by 4.9 percent.

Regardless of rising prices, a new year is a great time to take a fresh look at your household budget, or even start one if you don't already have one.  Kiplinger has a great worksheet that you may want to check out when working on your family budget.
