Officer Bitten By Dog, Injured During Attack In North Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Police say an officer was injured after being bitten by a dog Sunday afternoon in North Philadelphia.

This happened just before 1:30 p.m. at 30th Street and Girard Avenue.

Neighbors say a dog was trying to get into a gate where another dog was being held. Officers then reportedly tried to tazer the animal, feeling citizens and officers were in danger.

The dog then bit an officer in the arm before being shot and killed.

"I heard I think five shots," says nearby business owner Mario Presta.

The officer bitten was taken to Hahnamann Hospital in stable condition.

Witnesses say another dog was seen taken from the scene by animal control officers.
