App Allows People To Raise Money For Charity While Working Out

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If your New Year's resolution involves running, cycling or walking, there's an app for your phone that might help maintain the motivation and raise money for charity in the process.

It's called Charity Miles, and it's a free download for your iPhone or Android.

"It allows everyday people like you and me to earn money for charity whenever we walk, run, or bike."

CEO and founder Gene Gurkoff who says by downloading the app, you can get corporate sponsors to pay one of more than 30 charities 25-cents for each mile you run or walk, and 10-cents a mile for cycling.

"From Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research, Stand Up For Cancer, Habitat for Humanity, Feeding America, Wounded Warrior Project."

And the list goes on.

"A lot of people think there's a catch but there's really not. All you have to do is walk run or bike."

Gurkoff says they've been able to raise over a million dollars over the past year. Charity Miles is available in the app store of on Google Play.
