SaferRide App Gives You Options To Get Home Safely

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- If you're going out to a party tonight, you should make a plan to get home if you're gonna drink. But if you don't, you might consider a new app that could prove to be a lifesaver.

It's called SaferRide, and it provides three options to a user. It'll help find you a cab, let you phone a friend you've pre-programmed, or in a worst case scenario, show exactly where you are.

Zach Hosseini with New Jersey's Division of Highway Traffic Safety says the feds put this together, so any one can use it.

"It's available for both Android and iPhones, and that makes up the vast majority of the phones that are out there, so it's more likely than not that you have a phone that operates on platforms that you can get this app from," he says.

The app is free from Google Play and the iTunes store.
