Cary Williams: 'Not Coming Back Would Definitely Hurt Me'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- At first he didn't seem to care, but now Eagles cornerback Cary Williams wants to be back in Philadelphia next season.

On Sunday after the Eagles' Week 17 win over the Giants, Williams was asked if he wants to be back with the Eagles.

"Either way," Williams said, "It doesn't matter to me."

Now, the polarizing Williams has changed his tune a bit.

"I would love to be back and I take pride in my job and what I do each and everyday," Williams told Howard Eskin and Hollis Thomas Wednesday on the 94WIP Morning Show. "So, if I'm not back it would definitely hurt me, but like I said, that's something that's not in my control. I would love to be back though."

Williams' 2015 cap figure is $8.17 million, but it would only cost the Eagles $1.67 million in dead money if they decided to release the 30-year-old veteran. Williams says he doesn't know where he will be for the 2015 season.

"I don't know if I'm gonna be back next year," Williams said. "I don't know if I'm gonna be in an Eagle uniform next year. That's something that I have not spoken to anybody about and that's nothing that's in my control. I think, you know, that depends on what those guys upstairs want to do, I think that depends on what those guys on defense want to do."

Williams' Eagles finished 10-6, but will be forced to watch the postseason games from home this year. However, as a former Super Bowl Champion with the Baltimore Ravens, Williams appreciates the difficulty of the game he plays.

"In our case the ball didn't necessarily bounce in our favor in some games, that's just a part of the process," Williams said. "You can't sit around and mope about making the playoffs and not making the playoffs. After awhile, we understood that. The last game coming up, whether we won or we lost, we weren't gonna make it. So, it kinda---it stung---but it kinda put everything into perspective and left a bad taste in our mouth. I think it's gonna be fuel to the fire for next season."
