Authorities: Man Runs Over Girlfriend 3 Times At NJ Gas Station

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — Authorities were searching Sunday for a man who allegedly ran over his girlfriend three times after he choked her at a southern New Jersey gas station.

Bail has been set at $500,000 for James Crudup. The 44-year-old Toms River resident has been charged with attempted murder.

Authorities say the attack occurred early Sunday at a gas station on Route 37 in the Ocean County community. They say Crudup and his girlfriend were arguing when he threw her to the ground and choked her.

The 35-year-old woman was able to get away and ran toward some gas pumps, but authorities say Crudup got in his sport utility vehicle and put it in reverse, A gas attendant tried to push the woman out of the way, but she was pinned between a pump and the SUV's bumper.

The woman fell to the ground after Crudup initially pulled the vehicle away. But he then allegedly drove toward her again and ran over her legs.

Authorities say Crudup then backed away a second time, but soon struck the woman a third time with the vehicle. He then drove off and remained on the lam late Sunday afternoon.

The woman was being treated at a hospital for injuries that are not considered life-threatening. But further details have not been disclosed.
