Rain In The Forecast May Actually Be Good News For Annual Reenactment Of Washington Crossing The Delaware

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Heavy rain in the Christmas Eve forecast could actually be a blessing in disguise as preparations continue for the annual Christmas Day reenactment of George Washington crossing the Delaware River in Bucks County.
John Godzieba, who portrays Washington, says they've been watching the gauges along the Delaware River for several days keeping an eye on river levels. But over the last couple of days it's been low, so low in fact that some of the replica Durham boats have been grounded on the bottom. So Godzieba says the steady rain could make their trek a little easier.
"And we look for this rain to really bring up the water levels, not to the point where it's going to make the flow of the river too fast for us, but enough to be able to get across," said Godzieba.
What they will be watching very closely he says will be the wind which they encountered a couple of weeks ago during the dress rehearsal. It all gets underway around 1 p.m. and Godzieba hopes the milder weather brings more visitors to the park.
