11 Students, Driver Injured After School Bus Accident In Delaware

NEWARK, Del. (CBS) -- Eleven students and a driver were taken to the hospital following an accident involving a school bus outside a middle school in Delaware Tuesday morning, police said.

The incident happened shortly before 7 a.m. on the property of Shue Medill School located at 1500 Capital Trail in Newark.

Delaware State Police say the bus driver swerved after a white SUV cut the bus off in the parking lot of the school.

The school bus then struck a light pole.

According to investigators, the white SUV fled from the parking lot in an unknown direction.

Authorities said 11 of the 23 students who were on the bus at the time of the crash were taken to Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children where they were treated for minor injuries.  The driver was taken to Christiana Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

The parents of the students on board the bus were contacted, according to school officials.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
