Center Of Attention Jason Kelce: 'There's A Lot Of Things We Could Do A Lot Better'

By Joseph Santoliquito

Jason Kelce, one of the NFL's top centers, shares his weekly thoughts with CBS Philly's Joe Santoliquito.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A day after Dallas beat the Eagles, Jason Kelce was still kicking himself over the lost opportunities the Eagles had—not just for failing to firm up a playoff berth and holding sole possession of first place in the NFC East, but for the lapse in improvement during the 38-27 loss on Sunday.

"You always get to watch film, and it was a frustrating film session for us; there was a lot of things left on the bone for us from an offensive perspective," Kelce said. "I can't speak for the defense or special teams, but I can imagine it was the same for them as well.

"There were a lot of opportunities, and if it was a game we could have back, I really feel there would be a different outcome. But that's not the way it works in this league."

What's gnawing at Kelce and the Eagles are their mistakes. The Eagles lead the NFL with 34 turnovers, with NFL highs in interceptions (19) and fumbles lost (15).

"The turnovers, the big plays, it's something that we really haven't gotten corrected, and that's what we have to get fixed, and get fixed fast," Kelce said. "I think what bothers me, and I think I can speak for everyone on the team, is that we're better than that. Much better. We know it.

"I was talking to Brent Celek earlier and he had a great assessment of how that [Dallas] game went. It's one of those games offensively that if you win the game, we played okay, but there's a lot of stuff that you could have done better. But when you lose a game like that, you play bad—and there's still a lot of things we could do better. If we had done those things, we would have put up more points and left our defense in much better positions. It would have been an overall better outcome."

Now the focus is geared toward Washington this Saturday. The Eagles could finish 11-5—the best record since Kelce has been an Eagle—and finish watching games instead of playing January football.

"There are a lot of good teams in the NFC this year and we can't focus on anyone else; we know the only thing we have to do is focus on winning these next two games," Kelce said. 'What's happened to us is our own doing, and you'd drive yourself crazy thinking about all of the different scenarios. We need to win these next two games."
