Montco Woman Pleads Guilty in Connection With Boyfriend's Heroin Death

By Brad Segall

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A Montgomery County woman will remain free on bail while awaiting sentencing after admitting she bought the heroin that ultimately resulted in her boyfriend's death.

Prosecutors say they will ask for a state prison sentence for Carly Stevenson, 28, given her reckless behavior.

The Hatboro woman, initially charged with delivery of drugs that resulted in death, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and related charges.

Assistant DA Kelly Lloyd says the facts of the case fit the lesser charge.

"It wasn't as though she was a traditional street dealer who was out there just trying to make a profit off of providing drugs to other individuals," she notes.

In September of 2013 Stevenson made a 911 call from her North York Road apartment, saying her boyfriend wasn't breathing.  When medical personnel arrived, Brandon Cron was already dead, according to court papers.  She told police she panicked and didn't know what to do.

Now, Stevenson faces a maximum of 12 years behind bars, although sentencing guidelines call for much less.
