PPA Relaxes Kiosk Enforcement Sunday Due To Technical Problem

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Parking Authority relaxed enforcement on Sunday because of an technical problem that was preventing kiosks from accepting credit card payments.
So what caused the problem?
"One or two systems possibly not talking to each other or a damage in one system," said PPA executive director Vince Fenerty. "It is not a hacking incident whatsoever. It is totally a communications failure."
It's unknown how many tickets were wrongfully written over the weekend, but Fenerty said crews were working to fix the problem.
"Our technical staff, as well as our outside vendors, are working feverishly," he said. "Customer card information is absolutely safe. That has all been checked."
Some machines were also having trouble accepting cash because they were already full of cash. Fenerty said the PPA was emptying out those kiosks so they could begin accepting cash on Monday. Tickets will still be written for safety violations. There's was no telling when cards would be accepted.
Fenerty apologized for the inconvenience, and asked the general public to be patient while the problem was being resolved."
