Current, Former Sirius XM Customers Might Be In Line For Payout

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware have signed on to an agreement with satellite radio company Sirius XM to settle allegations of poor business practices.

Sirius is paying $3.8-million to 46 states, as well as paying restitution to eligible customers for misleading advertising and shoddy billing practices.

New Jersey acting attorney general John Hoffman says he's received many complaints from Sirius customers:

"I call up to cancel and I'm put on hold, I call to cancel and all the sudden the phone gets cut off. I cancel and I feel like I've canceled -- I requested that -- and it didn't go through."

He says that's because employees were given bonuses on how many customers they stopped from canceling:

"That incentivized some I think some shoddy and slipshot behavior on behalf of the employees, and now they're precluded from doing that."

Customers were also enrolled in automatic contract renewals without their consent.

Those who want to file a complaint should visit the Sirius website.
