Sixers To Formally Dedicate Wilt Chamberlain Stamps On Friday

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Wilt Chamberlain will become the first NBA player to be honored with a United States Postal Service stamp. The Sixers and the USPS will formally dedicate the stamps on Friday when the team squares off against the Thunder.

Friday will be the official First Day of Issue for the Wilt Chamberlain Forever stamps. "It is an honor to be a part of history as we dedicate this stamp and celebrate the great Wilt Chamberlain with his family, friends and teammates," said Sixers Chief Executive Officer Scott O'Neil via the team's website.

Sales of the stamps will tip-off on Friday at 6:00 pm just as the Sixers open the doors for their game against the Thunder. All fans in attendance for the game will receive a commemorative poster featuring moments from Chamberlain's career and images of the stamps.

The Sixers will hold a special ceremony at halftime that will feature members of Chamberlain's family and Sixers legends including Julius "Dr. J." Erving.

Chamberlain's stamps will pay homage to his immense size as well as they will be about 1/3 of the size larger than the average stamp.
