PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Parents-to-be will want to take a look at this list.
Sophia was the most popular name for girls for the fifth year in a row, followed by Emma, Olivia, Ava and Isabella.
The top five names for boys were the same as they were in 2013: Jackson came in number one, followed by Aiden, Liam, Lucas and Noah.
Some names from pop culture also saw a rise in popularity. For example, the Netflix show “Orange is the New Black” resulted in a boost for the names Piper and Dayanara. Elsa and Duke were also up nearly 30 percent, likely as a result of the uber-popular Disney film “Frozen.”
“This is the year of the binge-watching baby name,” Linda Murray, BabyCenter Global Editor in Chief, in a release. “When you spend 16 hours in one weekend binge-watching your favorite series, you can’t help but fall in love with the characters’ names. The correlation between trending baby names and trending binge-watch shows is undeniable.”
The research is apparently based on the names of more than 400,000 babies born in the U.S. to moms registered on BabyCenter in 2014.
