Philadelphia Fashion Show Raises Money For Youth Etiquette And Mentorship Programs

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Mega producer Kenny Gamble and his wife, Faatimah, are holding a swanky fundraiser to benefit out-of-school leadership and etiquette programs for boys and girls.

"I used to be quiet, uncomfortable and really didn't put my ideas out there," says Nahmir Glenn, 17, an 11th-grader at Universal Audenreid Charter High School.

He has attended workshops and trainings in the mentorship program From Boys to Men for several years. And today, the South Philadelphia native is confident. He says one of his favorite memories from the program is going to the Black Wax Museum in Baltimore:

"When I look and see all the great historic figures that look like us-- it just makes me want to do something good."

His favorite subject is science and his goal is to become a physical therapist so he can help people like his grandfather, who had several knee surgeries.

"He didn't really do what he needed to do after the surgeries," says Glenn, "but I would work with him-- get him to walking around and exercising. And I want to help people be able to do all the things they used to be able to do."

"Look how they have developed from an oyster to a luxurious pearl," says Faatimah Gamble, who started From Boys to Men, a program for boys, as well as Pearls Wisdom, a program for young women, 25 years ago.

She says Universal Companies' inaugural Evening of Grace at Style fashion show benefit fundraiser will support the  programs:

"We have designs by Frank Agostino and of course, Boyd's of Philadelphia, and our audience will get to see all the progress our young people have made."

The event is December 3rd at University of the Arts.
