Police: 90 Pounds Of Marijuana Delivered To Delaware County Business

By David Madden and Pat Ciarrocchi

UPPER DARBY, Pa., (CBS) -- Police in Upper Darby are looking for whoever was supposed to get 90 pounds of high grade marijuana delivered to a store on 69th Street over the last two days.

The manager at City Blue, a clothing store, got quite a shock when Fed Ex delivered the packages. Two separate transactions, $300,000 worth of high quality pot. The manager called police and is cooperating fully, according to Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.

"So somebody is missing a lot of marijuana in the streets of our community," said Chitwood.

Upper Darby Police got a call from the manager at City Blue on 69th Street about a suspicious delivery from California.

"He opened the one package and as soon as he opened the package he saw marijuana. Called police, Upper Darby Police went in and retrieved 60 pounds of marijuana," Chitwood said.

The marijuana in sophisticated packaging so a drug-sniffing dog could not detect the shipment. Then, 24 hours later, 30 pounds more delivered by Fed Ex to the same clothing store from the same address in California.

"We are now conducting an investigation as to the point of origin and also the name on the delivery slip, there is such a person on that slip, so we are trying to locate that person as I speak to you," said Chitwood.

Police tell CBS 3 Eyewitness News that the name on the packaging has no connection to the store nor the store manager who is cooperating fully with the police. The street value of the marijuana: $300,000.

Chitwood suggests whoever shipped the marijuana probably is trying to take advantage of the holiday rush to sneak the stuff through.
