Delco SPCA: Previously Malnourished Dog Now Available For Adoption

CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) – The Delaware County SPCA says a dog, who was found extremely malnourished in the backyard of a Chester home, is now available for adoption.

The young female Pit Bull Terrier, named Pearl, arrived at the SPCA weighing just 20 pounds. Pearl's ribs stuck out and she could barely stand on her legs.

Today, Pearl weighs a healthy 45 pounds.

Anyone interested in adopting her is asked fill out a dog application, drop it off to the Adoption Center in Media and email it to Dayna at dvilla@delcospca.org or fax the completed application to Dayna's attention at 610-565-1176.

Delco SPCA says applicants will be accepted through November 23. They say Pearl loves people of all ages, along with other dogs and cats. She is also crate and house-trained.

Pearl suffers from Lyme disease, but has no other effects stemming from her previous poor living conditions.

Delco SPCA Humane Society Police Officers conducted an investigation to find who was responsible for Pearl's condition. Last week, two people plead guilty and were cited for neglect and emaciation, both misdemeanors in the state of Pennsylvania.
