Burlington County Couple Accused Of Stealing Softball Organization Funds

PEMBERTON Twp., N.J., (CBS) -- A Burlington County couple is accused of stealing funds from a girls softball organization that they helped oversee, investigators said Monday.

Daniel O'Hara, 34, and Malissa O'Hara, 35, both of Pemberton Township, were charged with one count of Theft by Deception (Third Degree) and one count of Misapplication of Entrusted Property (Third Degree).

Investigators say that between May and October of 2014, the couple allegedly spent more than $3,600 in funds for personal use that belonged to the Central Burlington Girls Fastpitch Softball League. David O'Hara was president at the time and Malissa O'Hara was the treasurer of the organization.

According to investigators, the money was spent to buy gasoline, cigarettes, movie tickets, groceries and also to pay several bills.

The O'Haras were removed from their positions as members of the league's board of directors. Investigators say they did not have children playing in the league during the time of the alleged thefts.

The investigation was conducted by detectives from the Pemberton Township Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office Financial Crimes Unit.

Investigators say they were arrested Friday and released without bail.
