Gillick: 'Ruben Amaro Has Put A For Sale Sign On Everyone'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Pat Gillick, the acting CEO of the Philadelphia Phillies, said three weeks ago that the Phillies are rebuilding and won't compete until around 2017, 2018.

On Tuesday, Gillick candidly stuck by his comments when speaking with CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury.

"I think Ruben's [Amaro Jr.] put a 'For Sale' sign out there on everyone, but that doesn't mean that everyone is going to go because some players we have are more valuable than others," Gillick told Salisbury. "So we might have a higher asking price than another team might want to pay at this point."

Gillick admitted the Phillies are in a complete rebuild, ready to make major changes.

"We're going to do everything possible to change the face of the team and put another group on the field," Gillick said. "Ruben's working hard at it. It takes time, it takes patience, and hopefully we're going to reach some of the goals. I don't know if we're going to reach all the goals that we set, but I think we'll reach some of them."

Gillick understands trading certain players could be very risky, especially for a big market team like the Phillies.

"Yeah, this is risky business so sometimes you've got to take your lumps," Gillick said. "Hopefully we can make more of the right decisions than the wrong decisions. If we do decide to trade one of our more valuable players, hopefully we're going to get back value and players in return."
