Fire Shuts Down Part Of Abington YMCA

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- Some parents in Montgomery County were left without childcare Tuesday morning after a fire at the YMCA in Abington Township.

Flames broke out around 4 a.m. Tuesday inside a childcare room at the Abington YMCA along the 1000 block of Old York Road.

The fire was contained to the one room and crews were able to quickly place it under control.

Omoiye Kinney, a spokeswoman for the YMCA, said the fire was caused by the heating and air conditioning unit inside the room.

No injuries were reported, but Kinney said smoke and water damage forced the cancellation of all childcare programs for the day. The rest of the building was expected to remain open.

The fire also forced the closure of Old York Road between Susquehanna Road and Adams Avenue for several hours.
