Kurt Busch Under Investigation For Alleged Domestic Assault

DOVER, DE (CBS) -- On Friday, police in Dover, DE announced that NASCAR driver Kurt Busch is under investigation for an alleged domestic assault that took place at Dover International Speedway in September.

According to the Dover Police Department, charges were brought to them regarding Busch on Wednesday, but no further details were released. According to an ESPN report, the charges were brought against Busch by his ex-girlfriend who claims that the incident took place while Busch was in Delaware for a race.

NASCAR has acknowledged that they are aware of the incident.

"NASCAR is aware of the investigation involving driver, Kurt Busch," said Brett Jewkes, NASCAR's Senior VP and Chief Communications Officer. "We recognize the seriousness of this matter and are actively gathering information from all parties, including law enforcement authorities and Stewart-Haas Racing. It would be inappropriate for NASCAR to comment further on this matter until we have more information."

Stewart-Haas Racing fields Busch's No. 41 car and the team released the following statement on the incident: "This is an allegation Stewart-Haas Racing takes very seriously but we're still gathering all of the facts."

Busch is scheduled to race next Sunday at the Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500 in Arizona. Busch has not been charged at this time.
