Pennsylvania Releases Its Report Card On Schools

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The state's long-awaited School Performance Profiles show flat scores compared to last year.

Pennsylvania's School Performance Profiles give schools 1-to-100 ratings, based largely on standardized tests but also including attendance and graduation rates.  Statewide, results were flat.

In Philadelphia, 34 of 214 schools made the cutoff score of 70 or above.  Jura Chung from the District's Office of Strategic Analytics says the city scores ranged from Central's 90.8 to 13 for the Philadelphia Virtual Academy.

The district has its own ratings called School Progress Reports, which Chung says should be released in February or March.

Critics said the state held the scores until after the gubernatorial election.  The Education Department said the delay was to allow schools to verify the data because it would be used in a new state evaluation of teachers.
