Howie Roseman And Brandon Boykin On The Loss Of DeMeco Ryans

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles managed to defeat the Texans on Sunday to advance to 6-2 on the season, but the win came at quite the cost. On Monday, it became clear that Nick Foles would be out for an extended period of time dealing with an injury to his clavicle.

To add to the bad news, Howie Roseman announced on The Howie Roseman Show that the Eagles were placing DeMeco Ryans on injured reserves which will end his season. Not only is Ryans a standout on the Eagles' defense from a performance standpoint, but he is also the emotional and vocal leader on that side of the ball.

"DeMeco, I mean, you talk about the warrior mentality and the leadership," Roseman said on Monday. "For us, certainly that's an emotional loss."

Roseman added that he expects Ryans to continue to have an impact on the team from a leadership standpoint despite not being able to take the field for the remainder of the season.

Brandon Boykin also stopped by on Monday as a guest on the show. Boykin directly experiences Ryans' impact on a daily basis and therefore knows first hand how much he will be missed.

"That's a tough loss for us," Boykin said of the Ryans injury. "Everybody has to be more involved defensive wise, more involved communication wise, because like you said he was the leader. We just got to pick up."

As Boykin stated, the entire defense will have to pick up to replace the presence of Ryans. His impact was not just made on the linebackers. It resonated throughout the entire team and the entire roster.

Chip Kelly famously stated a few weeks ago that "culture wins football."

With Ryans out for the season and Foles down for an extended period, we will all find out just how strong the Eagles locker room culture really is.
