Berks County Babysitter Accused Of Physically Abusing 14-Month-Old Girl

By Steve Beck

BETHEL TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- A 14-month-old toddler is in critical condition after Pennsylvania State Police allege she was abused by her babysitter.

Lisa Elaine Weiler, 32, has been charged with Criminal Attempt/Murder of the 1st degree, Aggravated Assault (3 counts), Simple Assault and Endangering the Welfare of Children.

The alleged incident happened on October 23rd inside a home in the 500 block of Frystown Road in Bethel Township, Berks County.

According to investigators, the 14-year-old was taken to Hershey Medical Center for a severe head injury that consisted of bleeding on the brain.

While examining and treating the toddler, medical personnel at the hospital believed the head injury suffered by the victim was not consistent with a fall as described by the child's babysitter, Weiler.

Following an investigation, Pennsylvania State Police said it was determined that the victim's injuries were a direct result of physical abuse inflicted upon the victim by Weiler.

Investigators said the toddler suffered traumatic head injuries resulting from the alleged assault and remains in critical condition.

Weiler was arraigned and bail has been set at $500,000.
