Dirt Bikes And ATVs Weave Through Philly As Part Of Memorial, Police Say

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Dirt bikes and ATVs careened at high speed through Philadelphia streets for nearly three hours Tuesday afternoon, part, police say, of a memorial for a 23-year-old dirt bike rider who was gunned down on a Southwest Philadelphia street one week ago.
Chopper 3 showed dozens of riders racing across sidewalks and in the wrong traffic lanes, as they roared at high speed through virtually every Philadelphia neighborhood. Performing stunts, as pedestrians and drivers scrambled to stay out of their way, the bikers stopped around 5:30 p.m. at a memorial site at 46th and Haverford Aves. in West Philadelphia.
At one point, the bikers pulled next to a moving school bus, children pressing against the windows to see the roaring caravan.
Outside the Philadelphia Zoo at 34th and Girard, a driver on an ATV could be seen performing "fishtails," the vehicle swerving on the streets.
Philadelphia Police say they were aware that numerous bikers would hit the streets as part of the memorial. However, they say, they cannot tolerate reckless driving that could put the bikers or others in danger.
So far, there's no word of any injuries or arrests.
