Delaware Travels To William & Mary Saturday

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Delaware Blue Hens will travel down to Williamsburg, Va. on Saturday to take on William and Mary in Colonial Athletic Association action.

Last time out the Blue Hens lost to Towson at home, 24-17. The Blue Hens actually led 17-10 before Towson scored two touchdowns in the game's final six minutes to grab the victory and drop Delaware to 4-3 (2-1 in the CAA).

"Just really frustrating," Delaware head coach Dave Brock tells KYW Newsradio. "Obviously, it needs to be a teachable moment. We turned the ball over four times and got none, you're almost never going to win a game when that happens. We're far too inconsistent. We're high. We're low. We probably had two of the better drives we've had this season in the first three drives of the game. Had 14 points on the board, our fourth drive, we're moving the ball, couple of plays, 50 yards and we've got a chance to be 1st and 10 on the 19 going in and we fumble the ball. And didn't really get back on track after that offensively."

A bright spot in defeat was the continues strong play of freshman defensive tackle Blaine Woodson. He had two sacks in the game and now has seven for the season. That already represents a new Delaware freshman single-season record.

"I think he works really hard," Brock says. "The positive from that is he's seeing his hard work and his teammates are seeing his hard work at practice and in the film room translate into success on the field."

William and Mary is also 4-3 this season, but they are 1-2 in the CAA after losing to Villanova Saturday, 35-31. The Wildcats scored the game winning touchdown with under a minute to play. Tribe wide receiver Tre McBride had a huge game in defeat against the Wildcats, catching 11 passes for 209 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

"He's a terrific player," Brock says. "Really dynamic. The quarterback (Steve Cluley) is playing really well. They have a lot of weapons. They are able to run the football really well and efficiently. They get in great down and distance situations where they have the ability to take shots."

Brock has high praise for their defense as well.

"They are one of the dominant defenses in FCS football," Brock says. "They have a couple of the best players in the country at their position."

Last season, William and Mary beat Delaware in Newark, 24-10.

Saturday's game kicks off at 12:30pm.
