Poll: Americans' Confidence In The CDC Has Dropped Dramatically

NEW YORK, NY (CBS) – A new CBS News poll reveals Americans' confidence in the Centers for Disease Control has dropped dramatically.

Just 37% of respondents now say the CDC is doing an excellent or good job, compared to 60% in a May 2013 Gallup poll.

Democrats (49%) have more confidence in the CDC than Republicans (35%).

"Americans' faith in the agency charged with protecting the homeland from the rapidly escalating Ebola outbreak in West Africa -- which has already crept onto U.S. soil -- has dropped sharply since the crisis emerged," CBS News reports.

As for other government organizations, Americans have the most confidence in the FBI, followed by the CIA and then Department of Homeland Security. The IRS and Veterans Affairs were seen as the least reliable.

According to CBS News, just over 1,000 adults were surveyed in the October poll.
