Chip Kelly Visited Victor Cruz After Devastating Injury

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Eagles fans are used to being described as classless and even worse than that at times. Booing is often attributed to the fans when it comes to player performance, opposition injuries and still Santa Claus for some reason.

Chip Kelly took a step to lighten the harsh reputation on Philadelphia sports culture when he took time out to visit Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz in the hospital.

Cruz suffered a knee injury that will end his season and was carted off the field during the Eagles 27-0 win. Cruz was sent to Jefferson Hospital after the injury and was forced to stay over night as opposed to heading home after the game with his teammates.

Kelly took some time to visit Cruz the next morning. The gesture shows the level of class that Kelly has brought to the organization. It also stands to represent the level of class that Philadelphia fans truly possess and too often are not given credit for in lieu of a few outdated anecdotes from the past.

A certain publication even went so far as to try to paint a picture that a chorus of boos rained down on Cruz as he was injured in the end zone clutching his knee. That was clearly not the case as some publications wanted people to believe.

Cruz spoke with members of the media on Friday and confirmed that Kelly visited him in the hospital the next morning. The Giants wide receiver underwent successful surgery and expects to return to full strength by training camp.
