Woman Killed In Freak Accident On I-95 In Delaware

NEWARK, Del. (AP) -- An Oklahoma woman died after getting out of her car on I-95 in Delaware and being struck by a car.

Delaware State Police say the incident occurred a little after 9 p.m. Sunday in Newark, near the Maryland state line, in the highway's northbound lanes.

Police say 54-year-old Connie Gullion of Moore, Oklahoma was driving in the middle lane of the highway when she suddenly slowed and swerved into a median crossover. Police say that caused another car to swerve and stop on the highway's right shoulder.

According to police, Gullion got out of her car and attempted to cross the highway, possibly to check on the other driver, when she was struck.

Gullion was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police say their investigation continues.
