Worker Dies After Being Pinned Under Golf Cart At Philadelphia Zoo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- According to police, a maintenance worker at the Philadelphia Zoo has died after being pinned under a heavy-duty golf cart.

Authorities say the incident occurred at 11:08 a.m Monday at the Philadelphia Zoo on the 3400 block of W. Girard Avenue.

The victim, who was in his 50s, was using the golf cart and somehow got trapped underneath it.

The male was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The Director of Communications at the Philadelphia Zoo released the following statement regarding the accident:

'It is with great sadness that I am reporting a tragic incident that occurred at the Zoo this morning.  One of our long time employees was seriously injured while performing his duties.  As a result he was transported by ambulance to Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he passed away from his injuries. Grief counseling will be onsite for staff who will need help through this terrible situation.'

The victim's identity has not yet been released.
