Hundreds of prevention messages to air across two TV stations in October Philadelphia, PA, September 30, 2014 – LIGHTS FOR THE CURE, a joint effort by CBS 3/CW Philly and Susan G. Komen Philadelphia, will turn the area skyline pink for the 13th year in a row during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month beginning tomorrow night as a reminder to stay vigilant in the fight against breast cancer.

From the Battleship New Jersey docked in Camden, to Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia to the Bethlehem Steel Blast Furnaces in the Lehigh Valley, buildings and landmarks throughout the region will go pink Wednesday evening, October 1st, with most remaining lit throughout the month. This year, The Liacouras Center and the fountain at Franklin Square will join the campaign for the first time. Atlantic City will also participate in the campaign with a citywide lighting of landmarks on Friday, October 3rd in partnership with Susan G. Komen Central and South Jersey.

Beyond the message broadcast by the lights, the campaign will also utilize the airwaves of both CBS-owned stations in Philadelphia to generate awareness of breast health. Throughout October, CBS 3 and its sister station The CW Philly will broadcast reminders to schedule a mammogram hundreds of times in news broadcasts and promotion, including every time a building or landmark is showcased in Eyewitness News.

Launched in 2002 by CBS 3 and the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, LIGHTS FOR THE CUREä was the area's first public service campaign to use the lighting of buildings and landmarks to promote a cause.

"As we prepare for the 25th anniversary of the Race for the Cure in 2015, we remain shoulder to shoulder with Komen in our commitment to this cause, says
CBS 3/The CW Philly 57 President and General Manager Jon Hitchcock. "Our stations have a powerful voice in this region and we are honored to use it to inform our viewers about such a critical issue."

"We have made so much progress since Lights for the Cure first lit up our community 12 years ago, and that's no coincidence," says Elaine I. Grobman, Chief Executive Officer, Komen Philadelphia. "The awareness, vigilance, fundraising and unified efforts driven by campaigns like Lights for the Cure and by partners like CBS all work together to create a formidable force -- and I am confident one day soon we will finish this fight."

CBS 3, The CW Philly and Komen Philadelphia acknowledge the support of Cancer Treatment Centers of America and Toyota sponsors of this campaign. We also thank our community partners in this campaign – the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation, the Free Library of Philadelphia and Bruleé Catering.

CBS 3 (KYW-TV) and The CW Philly (WPSG-TV) are part of CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation.
