Man Struck And Killed By SEPTA Train

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A man was struck and killed by a SEPTA train in the Fern Rock section of Philadelphia.

It happened just before 10:00 a.m. Sunday near Wagner and Olney Avenues, just south of Fern Rock Train Station.

Authorities say a man in his 60s was walking south on the regional rail line tracks when he was hit by a SEPTA R5 train.

He was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The was no initial word on the man's identity, or why he was on the tracks.

The accident resulted in delays of up to 20 minutes for all SEPTA Regional Rail service operating through Fern Rock Transportation Center.

SEPTA police continue to investigate.
