Realistic Toy Guns Have City Council Members Concerned
By Mike Dunn
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia City Council will consider a ban on the sale of toy guns that look all too real.
The measure was introduced by 2nd District Councilman Kenyatta Johnson:
"We don't want to see another Ferguson take place in the city of Philadelphia."
The city code already prohibits the sale of water pistols, but Johnson wants a broader law that would also include all toy guns unless, he says, they are painted in a way that makes clear they're just toys:
"Brightly colored or historical replicas and they can clearly can be viewed as a toy, then they will be exempted."
Earlier this month, residents of the Point Breeze section of South Philadelphia protested the sale at a local corner store of toy guns that shoot pellets called 'airsoft' and the store apparently relented.
