Longwood Gardens Hope To Flush Competition In Best Bathroom Contest

By Justin Udo

KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. (CBS) - Longwood Gardens in Chester County is known for its flowers and trees, but the Garden's restrooms are in a contest for the title "Best Bathroom in America."

Accompanied by a glass roof that lets the sun in, a winding 20-foot high wall covered in more than 40,000 plants guides the way to the Longwood Gardens bathroom pods.

"Part of the restrooms are actually built into the side of a hill, so that helps us with heating and cooling in a more natural way," explains Patricia Evans with Longwood Gardens. "There's a lot of environmental features to the restrooms as well."

Evans says each bathroom pod has a skylight, as well as motion detectors for the toilets, sinks and paper towel dispensers.

With all these unique amenities, it's not hard to see why this restroom is considered one of the best places to do number two in the national bathroom contest. There are ten other bathrooms in competition with Longwood Gardens.
