McCoy, Phila. Restaurant Owner Speak Out About 20-Cent Tip

By Natasha Brown

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Business is swift at PYT Burger in Northern Liberties days after the restaurant went viral.

Now known not just for its burgers, but for being the recipient of a $0.20 cent tip from Eagles running back LeSean McCoy.

"We never had anyone meticulously spell out 00.20 cents and then add it up correctly and then walk out," owner Tommy Up said.

Thursday, McCoy broke his silence about why he felt the tiny tip was warranted.

"I tip on my service. I think there's a difference between, you know, good service and bad service, or just having a bad day. There's a big difference from just being rude and disrespectful," McCoy said.

Tommy Up owns PYT Burger. He was there the night McCoy and a group of friends were served.

Up tells a different story all together.

"His reason was some ambivalent request about bad service. It was impeccable service. He sat right next to me, he sat next to my general manager, he sat next to my partner. His service was flawless," Up said.

Hours after the meal, Up posted the bill and a message about the tip on Facebook.

That cast his restaurant into the social media spotlight.

The comments are mixed.

Facebook posts have been mixed with Steven saying, "Clearly this restaurant doesn't respect it's patrons privacy."

While Heather writes, "I respect an employer who sticks up for his employees."

But the most intriguing tweet came from Charlie Sheen.

He offered to give the waiter $1,000.

But McCoy is sticking with $0.20.

"Any restaurant that I go around in Philadelphia I tip very well. I''m very respectful," McCoy said.

"Oh my gosh you should definitely tip, like people make a living off of tips," one person Eyewitness News spoke with said.

"Tips are based on service, so if it was poor service then I agree with him," another person said.

For now the lines are drawn with McCoy and Up saying they wouldn't do anything differently.
