Grocery Delivery Service Partners With Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If you love the upscale, gourmet goodies you can buy at Reading Terminal but hate the crowds and lack of affordable parking nearby, you're going to be pretty excited about this.

Grocery delivery service Instacart is partnering with the historic market, which means you can get everything from Valley Shepherd Creamery's delectable cheeses to Flying Monkey's famous whoopie pies delivered straight to your doorstep starting later this fall.

And the Instacart delivery zone doesn't stop at city limits; it extends all the way into the Main Line, Northwest Philly, Upper Darby and Montgomery County, so customers living outside city limits can still get their hands on Reading Terminal specialties.

Instacart already has a partnership with Whole Foods Market, BJ's Wholesale Club, Fine Wine & Good Spirits, ACME Markets, Super Fresh and Green Aisle Grocery in the Philadelphia area. Philadelphia City Manager George Shotz says he chose to add Reading Terminal because of customer demand, and Paul Steinke, the Market's general manager, agrees.

"For the first time our customers will be able to get home delivery of products from the Market within an hour. This service will be a time-saving tool for many shoppers who, due to their busy schedule, geographic location, lack of transportation or other circumstances, may not be able to get to Reading Terminal Market as often as they wish. Instacart provides a viable option that can be accessed via a simple Web application," Steinke says in a release.

Instacart says Reading Terminal Market goods will be available for delivery beginning in mid-to-late October.
