Delaware Readies For Visit From Colgate Saturday

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Delaware Blue Hens will look to make it two straight wins on Saturday as they welcome Colgate to Newark.

Delaware evened its record at 1-1 this past Sunday, beating in-state rival Delaware State, 27-9. The Blue Hens rushed for 278 yards and three touchdowns in the victory, with sophomore running back Jalen Randolph leading the way with 118 yards and two of the scores.

"We want to run the football," Delaware head coach Dave Brock tells KYW Newsradio. "I think when we do that, you look over the last whatever it has been, 13, 14 games, when we've been able to run the football, we've been a pretty efficient, pretty explosive offense. Disappointing that we didn't have more explosive plays on Sunday, we had a couple opportunities and we didn't make them. But if we can continue to run the football and be a physical football team up front, then our opportunities will be there and I think we'll do well."

Now this game with Delaware State was played on Sunday afternoon after being postponed on Saturday night because of bad weather. Brock says his team did a good job of adjusting on the fly and getting ready to play.

"When we told them," Brock says, "a little after 7:00 o'clock, that we weren't going to play and we were able to tell them we were going to play the following day at noon, we really just flipped the switch and went into night before the game mode. Sent the kids home and then had a group team text where we gave them the schedule for tomorrow and we just did a normal gameday morning schedule."

So now the focus is on Colgate. The Raiders lost their season opener at Ball State back on August 30th, 30-10, and they are coming off a bye week.

"Historically, they are a very physical team," Brock says. "Big, strong team. Offensively their hallmark is running the football, so that will be a great challenge for us. We've got to do a better job stopping the run and do a better job tackling.

"Defensively, schematically, they are a 3-4, so you don't see that a lot," Brock says. "We've got to be prepared to make sure that we can understand the blocking patterns and the thing that we need to do to make sure that we get everything hitting on all cylinders, offensively."

Delaware and Colgate will kick-off at 6:00pm on Saturday night at Delaware Stadium.
