Reports: Sixers To Trade Thaddeus Young

Update: Friday, 10:45am

Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting the Sixers will trade Thaddeus Young to the Timberwolves for two expiring contracts---Luc Mbah a Moute and Alexey Shved---and the Miami Heat's 2015 first-round pick (top-10 protected in 2015 and 2016, unprotected in 2017).

The deal will reportedly be completed on Saturday.

KYW's Matt Leon talked with Sixers Beat Reporter Tom Moore about the reported trade:

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- According to several reports, the Sixers are still likely to deal Thaddeus Young, but they may not be getting Anthony Bennett in return like many people believed. With August 23rd quickly approaching, the reality of the Kevin Love for Andrew Wiggins swap is becoming very real.

The speculation had been that Love would go to Cleveland in exchange for Andrew Wiggins and Bennett and that Bennett would get sent to Philadelphia in exchange for Thaddeus Young. Obviously some assets would change hands as well.

Now there appears to be some growing belief that Young may still be heading to the Timberwolves, but that Bennett may be staying in Minnesota as they look to build a new young nucleus.

Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun reported that several sources confirmed that Bennett would go to the Timberwolves to stay and that Young would still wind up there.

Jerry Zgoda, the Timberwolves reporter for the Star Tribune also put out that a Bennett for Young swap is unlikely.

So what does that mean for the Sixers? If they are not going to acquire Bennett who do the Timberwolves have on the roster to offer for Young?

The Timberwolves could put together a package that includes Alexey Shved and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. Both players are on expiring deals and Mbah a Moute was responsible for convincing Joel Embiid's family to allow him to come to the United States to play basketball. He discovered Embiid's skills while attending a camp in both players' native Cameroon.

The connection still exists to this day as Mbah a Moute advised Embiid on his decision to leave Kansas. Their connection could help Embiid as he transitions into NBA life. The Timberwolves would more than likely have to add in some assets in terms of future draft selections. Some of those could be picks they own moving forward or selections that they acquire sending Love to Cleveland.
