Authorities: Teacher Tried To Lure Former Student
WILLINGBORO, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a former middle school teacher tried to entice a former student into engaging in sexual activity.
Patrick McGwier, of East Windsor, is charged with attempted luring. He was arrested Thursday in Willingboro when he arrived for what he thought would be a sexual encounter with the now 15-year-old girl.
McGwier taught the girl when she was in eighth grade. Authorities say he contacted her earlier this year through social media and expressed an interest in pursuing a relationship. The girl's family then notified authorities.
McGwier allegedly continued to communicate with the victim online, unaware that a detective was communicating with him in place of the girl.
McGwier's bail was set at $100,000 cash, and it was not known Saturday if he had retained a lawyer.
