NJ Nanny Gets DUI After Mother Finds Her Passed Out Near Crying Child

By Andrew Kramer

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (CBS) – A mother found the nanny she hired to watch her son passed out drunk next to the crying child Friday afternoon in Toms River, New Jersey. The intoxicated nanny then crashed her car shortly after leaving the home.

This all began around 2 p.m. on the 100 block of Benjamin Street.

Toms River Police say the mother hired 50-year-old Susan Porfido-Gibson to watch her young son and left the home around 10 a.m. When she returned almost four hours later, she discovered Porfido-Gibson passed out drunk on the floor while her son was crying.

The intoxicated nanny then stumbled out of the home and drove away. Minutes later, she crashed her car into a fire hydrant, knocking it out of the ground.

Porfido-Gibson's blood alcohol level was over three times the legal limit, leading to her arrest. Three empty bottles of alcohol were found in her car.

She was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, DWI, Possession of Alcohol in a motor vehicle and numerous other motor vehicle offenses. She is currently being held in the Ocean County Jail on $50,000 bail.
