Jordan McRae Looks Like A Steal For Sixers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Sixers walked away with seven new players following the NBA Draft. The team went into the draft with five second round picks and it's looking like they got a real steal in Jordan McRae.
McRae was a senior out of Tennessee and went with the 58th overall pick to the San Antonio Spurs before being dealt to the Sixers. Through Summer League action, McRae is making Sam Hinkie look like a genius as he's been the leading scorer for the Sixers' Las Vegas squad and the third leading scorer for the entire tournament.
McRae has averaged 21 points per game in Las Vegas and has shown a real ability to be a first scoring option on a team.
He proved that while at Tennessee. In his senior season, McRae scored 18.7 points per game while shooting just over 35 percent from beyond the arc.
Coming out of Tennesee, the book on McRae was that he didn't do anything exceptionally well. He has good size for an NBA shooting guard or small forward at 6'6. He's solid from deep and the free throw line and can defend his position well.
McRae was seen as purely a guy who does a little bit of everything well. He is backing up that notion and then some in Summer League.
Capitalizing on second round selections is something that Hinkie has always hung his hat on. Chandler Parsons is always the name referenced from his time in Houston. Perhaps Hinkie has hit on another gem late in the draft.
There may not be a definitive answer for why McRae fell to pick 58, but it may work out very well in the Sixers' favor.
