Summertime Pop-Up Park Reopens In Eakins Oval

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Today marks the opening of a new "pop-up" park in Philadelphia.  And this one has something to offer for folks of all ages.

For the second year, the Fairmount Park Conservancy is putting the free park at Eakins Oval, near the Philadelphia Art Museum.

"There's ping-pong, there's bocci," says Kathryn Ott Lovel, with the Fairmount Park Conservancy.  "There is a brand-new game that we're unveiling this year called Kubb, and it's a Viking skill game.  We'll have the cornhole game and the water mister feature [below]."

There is a raised, lighted stage for performances, a shaded picnic area, and a pavilion for a beer garden.
Lovel says the park offers daily programs Monday through Friday, starting at 9am.

"Every day has a different theme," she tells KYW Newsradio, "so we'll have an arts and culture day, a wellness day, a food and flicks day, a family fun day, and a game day."

The pop-up park is open through August 17th.
