SJ HOTChefs

Summer time in New Jersey evokes images of sweet corn, juicy tomatoes, vibrant berries and luscious cantaloupes. For the first time ever, prior to the 2014 SJ Hot Chef's Farm to Fork event, the public is being invited to help harvest the crops. Families can come to Duffield's Farm Market located at 280 Chapel Heights Rd, Sewell, NJ from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 and assist in picking peppers, green beans and eggplant which will then be at their peak.

Then from July 20-26, 2014 the harvested vegetables will be incorporated into the menu prepared by all restaurants participating in the SJ Hot Chef's Farm to Fork week-long event. All told forty-five eateries will feature a summer time four course offering for $35.00 (some offering a three course for $25).

On Wednesday July 16th baskets will be provided by Duffield's Farm Market and anyone interested will have a chance to experience picking the delicious produce. In a specially designated area, children will be taught how to turn raspberries and peaches into something tasty and then be able to take their concoctions home with them.

"We thought this was a fun way to teach children and their parents about the entire process. We felt that by getting them involved they would appreciate the food even more," said Anthony Iannone, Owner of Anthony's Creative Italian Cuisine restaurant.

As an added interactive element the public is being asked to participate in the "Littlest Chefs" contest. SJ Hot Chefs are encouraging people to submit pictures of their kids with their culinary creations on-line by tagging SJ HotChefs on Facebook or using the hashtag #SJLittleChefs on Twitter. One winner will receive a $100 gift card and their child's dish will be featured at one of the participating restaurants during Farm to Fork.
