PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It’s not Brazil, but for hundreds of folks in Philadelphia who wanted to watch the U.S. men’s soccer team take on Portugal in their World Cup matchup, an outdoor, big screen TV in Center City was the next best thing.

In the buildup to the match, fans who gathered at 15th and Locust in Center City had pretty high expectations of team USA.

“I don’t think there is any doubt that we win today,” this confident fan said before the game.

And even when their team was down 1-0 going into the half, spirits still remained high.

“This is America, I truly belive are going to win, otherwise I wouldn’t be here,” this fan said.

The only time this crowd showed any dejection was when a last-second by Portugal tied up the game.

But many of the fans who came out tell KYW Newsradio they loved the atmosphere and can’t wait for team USA to take on Germany Thursday:

“We’re going to be just fine, we’re america baby.”

“We’re tied at the top of the group, we got this.”

A win or tie against Germany puts USA into the round of 16.
