A Fabulous Friday!

By Kate Bilo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A strong cold front was a game-changer for our area over the past 24 hours, effectively putting an end to the first real heat we've felt this season and bringing some nasty thunderstorms. Storms last night produced a ton of dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning and a number of house fires and downed trees were reported across the area.

Today, the clouds held on through most of the day as showers gradually moved from northwest to southeast. This kept our region in a cooler pattern and stabilized the atmosphere, effectively deleting the risk for severe weather. Instead, we felt temperatures drop by over 20 degrees in spots and we had some rain and drizzle through the day.

The good news? Showers have now cleared the region and cooler, less humid air is arriving. We'll enjoy a fabulous Friday with highs in the low to mid 80's and lower humidity. Saturday is the official start to summer, and it will stay on the cool side with highs in the upper 70's and the chance for a shower early. Then we're back to the 80's with sunshine Sunday through Tuesday! A really nice pattern on the way as we kick-start the summer season.
