Mother, Boyfriend Charged After Phila. First-Grader Brings Heroin Into Classroom

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia district attorney's office says the mother of a child who took heroin to school (see related story) and her live-in boyfriend have been arraigned in connection with that incident.

The DA's office says 32-year-old Marie Hunter and 28-year-old Christopher White are charged with endangering the welfare of a child.  White is also charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana.

According to the DA's office, the child endangerment charges stem from the condition of the home  in West Philadelphia where the two were raising Hunter's six-year-old daughter.

Hunter's bail is set at $25,000. White's bail is $75,000.  The two are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 22nd in Family Court.

It was not immediately clear if the DA was dropping herion-possession charges against the couple or whether that aspect of the case was still under investigation.
