Tired Of Philadelphia? How About A Trip To The Countryside

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Visit Philadelphia launched a new website this week that touts the benefits of traveling to the Philadelphia countryside.

It's called 'Towns of the Philadelphia Countryside.' The website makes it easy to explore 15 towns and neighborhoods in the five county-region.

"Once people get in their car, they will discover gems for themselves," says Visit Philadelphia CEO Meryl Levitz.

Levitz says people can log onto the website and type in their interests -- whether it be beer, wine, gardens or markets -- and a bright redline will create a trail with nearby destinations.

For example, "In Chester, Kennett Square, which is the mushroom capitol of the world," Levitz says. "West Chester, which has a wonderful Main Street. Delaware County, that's where we have Wayne, the home of the beautiful Chanticlear gardens and Media-- which has great live arts theater among other things."

All of the featured towns have festivals, historical significance, art, bed and breakfast stops and lots of restaurants.
