MacArthur Wins GOP House Primary In NJ's 3rd

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Former Randolph Mayor Tom MacArthur has won the hotly contested Republican primary in New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District.

He will face Burlington County Freeholder Aimee Belgard, who easily won the Democratic nomination Tuesday.

The November election is expected to be New Jersey's most competitive congressional race as Democrats hope to pick up a seat.

The seat is open because Republican Rep. Jon Runyan decided not to seek re-election.

The 3rd District stretches from the Philadelphia suburbs to the Jersey Shore.

MacArthur and Steve Lonegan, also a former northern New Jersey mayor, moved to the district to run.

Lonegan entered the race weeks after losing a special U.S. Senate election to Democrat Cory Booker and declaring his days of running for office were over.
