What's New At The Shore: Special Attractions For Kids

By Hadas Kuznits

ATLANTIC CITY N.J. (CBS) -- Destinations at the shore, eager for family business, are catering to children as they bring in new, kid-friendly programs.

"We are going to be entering into a partnership with the Discovery Museum out of Cherry Hill, New Jersey," says Sherry Amos, with the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, "and they are looking to bring in a lot of activities and exhibits for children."

Jeff Guaracino, with the Atlantic City Alliance, says some activities will be free.

"The 3D Sound and Light Shows -- four different shows -- will be (projected on the façade) on Boardwalk Hall," he tells KYW Newsradio.  "That happens every night after dark.  And if there's a show in Boardwalk Hall, like Lady Gaga, we'll do it a little bit later to make sure people can get out."

Meanwhile, deputy Wildwood mayor Pete Byron says there's a new service there to help you get the family from the boardwalk to the water:

"If you're familiar with our beaches, you know our beaches can be a little intimidating by their size.  So we're going to have a service, it's going to be like a cab service, I guess.  They're sort of like four-wheelers that are going to travel along the beach, they'll seat five people.  They'll be able to pick people up at the back of the beach and bring them down so they won't have to trudge through that large desert that we have as a beach."

Once on the beach in Wildwood, says Byron, "You're gonna have the Hippo Slide, which is a giant waterslide."

And Courtney Birmingham, with Resorts Hotel in Atlantic City, says they'll be marking the unofficial start of summer with a big event:

"On Memorial Day we are kicking off all the fun with a beachball drop.  We're counting down to five o'clock, and at five o'clock we're going to drop 5,000 beach balls over the boardwalk."
