What's New At The Shore: Much More Than Boardwalk and Beach

By Hadas Kuznits

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- For many, the centerpieces of a Jersey shore vacation are the beach and the boardwalk.

But within that milieu, there's a lot that's new this year.

"Landshark Bar and Grill" is one new thing, according to Courtney Birmingham (above), with Resorts Casino-Hotel in Atlantic City.  "Atlantic City's only year-round beach bar is expanding to have more of a footprint right on the beach; so there will be bars, Adirondack chairs, a fire pit."

Meanwhile, Wildwood deputy mayor Pete Byron (photo below) says his town will not be outdone by Atlantic City.

"In addition to our newly founded pet-friendly beach [see related story], we're also working on a beach bar," Byron tells KYW Newsradio.  He says there will also be beach parties this summer in Wildwood.

"The electronic dance music -- the EDM music -- will be on the beach, and we'll have more than one DJ at each one of these events.  It's going to be, like, an all-day affair," Byron says.

Back in A.C., Jeff Guaracino with the Atlantic City Alliance says there will be free boardwalk entertainment.

"Broadway [in New York City] is quiet on Mondays, and so we reached out to some of the stars -- the Disney shows and a few others -- and they're very excited to come down on Monday nights to do 'Broadway on the Boardwalk,' " he explains.  "And then there's other live music, there's great bands, and jazz festivals."

And "Boardwalk Fitness" will also be offered, according to Guaracino.  "So if you're an early-morning riser and you want to get fit, every morning at 9am we have Beach Body Bootcamp, followed by Zumba as a second class (at 10am)."

Back at Resorts Hotel, Courtney Birmingham notes, "Summer is here, and it's about time!  So we're here, and we're having fun."
